Getting Started
SideQuest turns your real steps into XP and expedition progress. For your first walk, accept The Wanderer's quest, start Forest Trail, then come back to collect your rewards.
1. Set up step tracking
Choose your username and follow the setup screens. On iPhone, allow SideQuest to read Steps from Apple Health. On Android, allow Physical activity for phone step recording and, if you use connected health apps, allow SideQuest to read Steps in Health Connect. SideQuest can use either available Android step source.
On Android, if you use Samsung Health, Google Fit, or Fitbit, enable Health Connect sync in that app too.
See Steps and Syncing for permission checks and troubleshooting.
Notifications are optional. Choose Maybe Later if you want to set them up another time. Once setup is finished, you'll reach Home.
2. Accept your first quest
Open Quests → Story and talk to The Wanderer. Choose Start 'The Expedition' Quest.
His task is to finish one expedition. Accept the quest before you finish the expedition. Earlier completions do not count toward it.
3. Start Forest Trail

Open Quests → Expeditions, find Forest Trail, and tap START for a solo expedition.
- Forest Trail is available from the start and costs nothing to unlock.
- It takes 500 steps without an Expedition Speed bonus.
- You can start without a class or equipment.
Sync on Home before starting, then start the expedition before you set off. Steps already credited before the run do not carry into the new run.
Go for your walk. When you return, open Home and pull down to sync your steps. You can check your expedition's progress in Quests → Expeditions.
4. Collect both rewards
When Forest Trail is finished, tap CLAIM REWARD on Home. Its base reward is 15 to 30 coins and 25 XP, on top of the XP from walking. Discoveries and gear chests are chance rewards. A specific item is not guaranteed.
Then return to Quests → Story → The Wanderer. Choose Complete Quest, then CLAIM REWARDS to collect another 100 coins and 100 XP.
These are two separate claims: one for the expedition and one for the quest. Claim your expedition reward before starting another solo run.
5. Check what you found
On Home, tap the chest icon to open Inventory. The Items tab holds consumables and unopened chests; Gear holds weapons and armor.
For discoveries, tap the profile icon on Home, then Discovery Log. Tap an item there to examine it. You might find
Mushroom, but a first run does not guarantee one.
What next?
- Try another route. Repeat Forest Trail or spend 100 coins to unlock River Path. This is a one-time purchase; the route stays unlocked.
- Choose a class at level 10. Talk to Master Shugo in Quests → Story. Your first class also comes with a starter weapon.
- Read about pets when you get an egg. Beastmaster Mia becomes available when you own an egg or pet. See Pets. Forest Trail does not drop eggs.
For route rewards and discoveries, see Forest Trail. For item effects and uses, see Items and Consumables.
